Where tradition looks towards the future
“A TASTY DISH”: Wild game meats. Venison ossobuco cooked at low temperature for 32 hours with brunoise vegetables and buckwheat polenta.
“OUR RECOMMENDATION”: Always give yourself time to marvel at the beauty of nature and wild landscape. The view from Prada over Lake Molveno is breathtaking.
“PERFECT FOR …”: Treating yourself to a holiday or a short break in close contact with nature in the Adamello Brenta Natural Park.
Rifugio Alpenrose is a mountain hut on the slopes of Monte Prada at an altitude of 1080 m. It can be reached easily by car from the village of San Lorenzo Dorsino. Turn off at the road sign for Rifugio Alpernose and continue along the tarmac road for about 3 km. The hut can also be reached on foot in about 1 h along the old Strada delle Slitte track, with its deep ruts that testify to the countless journeys of sliding carts loaded with hay, starting from the centre of the village of San Lorenzo Dorsino. The view from
the hut over Lake Molveno is fabulous.
The Alpenrose was built as a base for mountain explorers and its rustic style has survived over the years, although today with some more modern features. The wood panelling decorating both facade and interior was all fitted entirely by hand. The enticing larch wood wall boarding leads from the entrance to the lounge, and on to the bedrooms. The lounge has a big majolica stove that keeps it warm even on the coldest and snowiest winter days.
The hut is an ideal starting point for numerous easy walks over the grassy slopes of Prada and more demanding hikes into Val d’Ambiez. Outside the air is crisp while inside are the aromas of freshly baked cakes and a hearty wood fire to keep you cosy. The owners, Claudio and Elena, offer traditional cooking with a creative modern interpretation. They like to spoil their guests with all the famous Trentino dishes reinterpreted in a modern key, merging the savours of days gone by with a dash of modernity. They take great care finding top quality ingredients, using seasonal 0 km products thanks to collaborations with local farms and producers. The menu follows the changing seasons based on the natural bounty of the local area.
The hut, including Bike Chalet, is open at weekends all year, and every day during the summer and over Christmas. We recommend contacting them directly to check the exact opening dates.
