Where you feel the firm embrace of the Brenta Dolomites
“A TASTY DISH”: Real mountain polenta prepared with the famous yellow flour from Storo and cooked in the traditional way in a copper cauldron.
“OUR RECOMMENDATION”: A visit to the nearby Fossil Cemetery, a deposit of megalodont bivalve molluscs that prove the Brenta Dolomites were once tropical islands surrounded by deep sea.
“PERFECT FOR …”: Anyone who wants a good healthy walk or a splendid e-bike ascent.
The hut is in the heart of the Adamello Brenta Natural Park at an altitude of 1820 m and surrounded by the impressively wild Val d'Ambiez. It can be reached from the village of San Lorenzo Dorsino following the road signs for “Val d’Ambiez” to the car park in the Baesa area. From here you set off on foot on path n. 325 for a walk of 2 h 30 min to the hut. Alternatively a taxi jeep service is available for an unforgettable ride up in safety and comfort. The hut is both an excellent destination and a departure point for those who have spent a restful night in the mountains and are continuing their trip through the high Brenta landscape.
The Cacciatore was originally built by a group of hunters in a location much loved by the local people for its spectacular position, surrounded by a natural amphitheatre of Dolomite peaks and rock walls. Walkers who reach the hut after a long hike in the mountains appreciate its friendly and otherworldly atmosphere, while its comfortable welcoming rooms decorated in old Alpine style offer a cosy shelter for the night.
You are greeted at the door by Whisky, an amiable big Saint Bernard dog, the guardian, Mirko, a great bike enthusiast, and Ierta, a felt artisan. The kitchen offers traditional Trentino dishes prepared with great care using local products.
The hut is open in summer, roughly from June to September. We recommend contacting them directly to check the exact opening dates.
