A quaint little mountain hut ringed by the imposing Brenta Dolomites
“A TASTY DISH”: Polenta, wild mushrooms, and melted cheese, a timeless local mountain meal.
“OUR RECOMMENDATION”: After reaching the Rifugio Selvata experienced walkers can continue up to the Rifugio Pedrotti, a hike of about 2 h 30 min.
“PERFECT FOR …”: The hut is ideally positioned as a final objective, or a well merited rest point for hikers.
The Rifugio Selvata stands on a small meadow surrounded by Dolomite mountain peaks, at an altitude of 1630 metres, and it can be reached from Località Pradel (Molveno) in about 1 h 30 min walking. The path leading up to the hut is pleasant and panoramic, surrounded constantly with imposing Dolomite rock walls and breath-taking views. These were the first areas explored by mountaineering pioneers who first traversed the Brenta Dolomites in the second half of the 1800s.
The hut is a quiet and friendly venue for enjoying some local specialities. Michele, the hut guardian, will welcome you with traditional cooking that includes many classic Trentino dishes, like canederli dumplings, polenta, tagliatelle with wild game ragu sauce, and grilled cheese. There is always plenty of fruit tart and apple strudel, ideal for replenishing your energy after an excursion. The hut is also an excellent refreshment point for walkers who want to continue hiking up to the Rifugio Pedrotti, about 2
h 30 min further up the path.
The hut is open in summer, generally from June to September. It is advisable to contact them directly to check on specific opening dates.
