An ideal destination mid-way between Lake Molveno and the Brenta mountain peaks
“A TASTY DISH”: ‘Il piatto della malga’ or ‘Malga Special’, which includes ‘Tonco del Pontesel’ stew, canederli dumplings, polenta, and grilled cheese in a rustic iron pan.
“OUR RECOMMENDATION”: Enjoy the homely welcome! From the care taken with every detail (the renovations were made by the custodians themselves) to the coffee served in a Moka pot, visiting Malga Andalo is like being hosted in the Pittighers’ home.
“PERFECT FOR...”: people who want to immerse themselves in the tranquillity of the mountains.
Located a few kilometres outside Molveno, Malga Andalo (1357 m above sea level) offers a fabulous view over the Brenta Dolomites and the Paganella plateau.
It is the property of the Municipality of Andalo and was closed for a long time until 2020 when Nicola Pittigher and his family took over as custodians. Stone by stone, timber after timber they completely renovated the building, finally reopening to the public in summer 2023.
Here you can savour the wholesome flavours of the Alpine culinary tradition immersed in the uncontaminated nature and tranquillity of the mountains, while your gaze wanders from Cima Roma to Cima Croz dell'Altissimo, on to Piz Galin and the Paganella.
Our recipes use the authentic ingredients of local traditions: Trentino meat, cheese, potatoes, polenta, wild mushrooms, and mountain herbs. Every dish pays homage to the beauty of the mountains around us and the unique flavours of our territory.
If you would like to make the best of your time, which here passes so slowly, and fully appreciate the marvels and simplicity of the surrounding nature, you can also spend the night at the mountain hut.
Malga Andalo can sleep 16 guests, divided between four rooms: 2 rooms to sleep 3, and 2 rooms to sleep 5. The rooms are in authentic Alpine hut style, which means comfortable but without extra features (no TVs!).
Starting from Molveno the mountain hut can be reached along two different paths, no. 332 from Baita ai Fortini di Napoleone, or the Sentiero Attrezzato Donini from Baita Ciclamino (the latter not suitable for children). There is also an easy forestry track, again starting from Baita ai Fortini Napoleone. The height gain is about 500 metres.
Malga Andalo is open from around mid May to mid October. We recommend contacting them directly to check the exact opening dates.
