RIFUGIO CACCIATORE - RIFUGIO AGOSTINI
A GORGEOUS HIKE IN THE WILD AND WONDERFUL VAL D'AMBIEZ
Val d'Ambiez has an important place in the history of mountaineering and is the main gateway for the southern peaks of the Brenta Dolomites. It starts off narrow and deeply incised by the waters of the Rio Ambiez torrent, with high rock sidewalls. Then suddenly, as you gain height, it opens up and your gaze roams freely over wide Alpine meadows below the famous towering peaks, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the huge rock walls and absolute verticality that have made the Dolomites famous the world over.
A convenient jeep service is available departing from San Lorenzo in Banale and carrying you easily up the first section of Val d'Ambiez to the Rifugio Al Cacciatore. Here you can already enjoy a fabulous view. The next section is on foot up to the Rifugio Agostini (2405 m above sea level). There are two paths available, but the easiest and most panoramic is path 325, of about 2.3 km. The second route is path 325B, which is slightly longer and more demanding, but equally enjoyable. Once you reach the Rifugio Agostini the panorama is truly breathtaking!
