Our guide for the cozy season in Dolomiti Paganella

Our guide for the cozy season in Dolomiti Paganella
Saturday 2 September 2023

Dolomiti Paganella in autumn is an experience that stimulates all 5 senses. The leaves rustle under your boots as your eyes try to take in all the colours of nature, the aromas of the forest and grape harvest, the tasty products harvested from our farms, and the opportunity to touch handmade products from our local craftsmen.

Let yourself be carried away by the autumn foliage

Download the foliage map and explore the area however you prefer: hiking, mountain biking, or car trips.

The Parco del Respiro in Fai della Paganella takes on a thousand shades of colour, augmenting the benefits of forest bathing with chromatherapy, while a hike around the Molveno and Nembia lakes will surprise you with the watery blues and greens reflecting the first snowy peaks of the Brenta Dolomites.

Glimpses of past times

The village of San Lorenzo Dorsino, the ruins of Castel Belfort, the Trentino Folk Museum, and the Ciucioi Gardens will wind back the clock and fascinate you with the folk tales and traditions of Trentino.

San Lorenzo Dorsino, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, achieves its maximum splendour in this season, with drying corn cobs, stone houses dressed in red ivy, and freshly smoked Ciuìga, the Slow Food presidium salami.

The ruins of Castel Belfort will take you even further back in time to the Medieval, when its tall tower and panoramic view of the colourful Val di Non was more important for defence than simply admiring the seasonal foliage.

Monte di Mezzocorona

On foot, on an e-MTB, or by cable car Monte di Mezzocorona is a favourite destination for Piana Rotaliana families on Sunday outings in the autumn.

On our didactic footpaths, via ferratas, and new panoramic Skywalking platform you can admire a splendid view over the Adige valley.

The Monte di Mezzocorona cable car is free with the Trentino Guest Card.

Mountain bikes and uplift facilities

MTBs represent a new way to experience the mountains and up until the snow arrives our favourite way of exploring the heights is on two wheels.

The uplift facilities on the Altopiano della Paganella are open at weekends until 5 November, check the times here.

Exploring our region through flavours

There is not much to compare with a glass of good wine and a delicious hot meal with your nearest and dearest.

In addition to gastronomic events, here you can find the opening times for our restaurants and huts, and here for wine cellars and distilleries to ensure you do not miss the special savours of autumn.

360° of wellness

Restore your wellbeing with an autumn weekend in Trentino. The pleasure of total relaxation is enhanced when nature itself is slowing down, time to enjoy the balmy sunshine with a wood burning stove to warm your hands from the first chills.

Dolomiti Paganella has a number of wellness centres based in Andalo, Molveno, Fai della Paganella, and San Lorenzo Dorsino.

Events

You choose the weekend, we will suggest an event.

21-24 September: sees the return to Molveno of the XTERRA 2023 World Championships. You can take part in the event, or work as a volunteer, to experience this exciting international event in first person!

7-8 October: in Fai della Paganella the Foliage in the Parco del Respiro event is a weekend to enjoy the sensations of nature wandering along our footpaths. Alternatively, in San Lorenzo in Banale October is the month for inclusive rock climbing. Take part in this festival for a weekend dedicated to rock climbing and the Falesia Dimenticata as an inclusive activity and venue.

8 October: Superpark will reveal the Parco Naturale Adamello Brenta from the perspective of the writer, scenographer, and teacher Davide Longo on an excursion of around two hours to Malga Andalo.

3-5 November: the annual festival that the local residents look forward to most is the Sagra della Ciuìga, an opportunity to taste this Slow Food presidium salami, produced in one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, San Lorenzo Dorsino. For 3 days you are welcomed in the courtyards of the old village of San Lorenzo Dorsino with workshops for children, craft markets, product tasting, and guided visits.

5-6 November: product sampling and discussions at the Incontri Rotaliani to learn about Teroldego and other wines from Etna.

Cozy season tips:

  • Set aside some free time and allow yourself to be guided by the slowing rhythms of nature.
  • If you want to take advantage of everything the destination has to offer be sure to check the opening hours of our services.
  • You can explore our holiday destination by car. If you want to use public transport, plan out your movements carefully since the bus services run less frequently than during high season; here is the timetable.
  • Check the weather forecast so that you bring appropriate clothing. We recommend hiking shoes and dressing in multiple layers.
  • Bring some entertainment for the hours of darkness since evenings are generally quiet.
