San Lorenzo Dorsino
Wellbeing and leisurely rhythms at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites
With its old stone and wooden houses, the village lies gracefully extended along a green terrace at the foot of the Dolomite mountains. You only have to wander through the winding streets of San Lorenzo Dorsino, officially classified as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, to perceive its pervasive atmosphere of peace and serenity.
Walking through the village you come across some perfectly preserved old mountain farmhouses, with their decked threshing floors and haylofts, known locally as ralte.
Another place to visit, just a few minutes by car from the village, is the WWF Nature Reserve of Lake Nembia, at the base of the Dolomite cliffs and the ideal place to breathe some fresh mountain air!
There are countless hiking trails, MTB tracks, and rock climbing cliffs. The Falesia Dimenticata or "Forgotten Crag" is one nearby. It was bought and equipped in a crowd funding initiative by the local population. Now an online booking system ensures that it is used sustainably and without harming the environment.

CURIOSITIES ABOUT san lorenzo dorsino
The traditional dish of San Lorenzo Dorsino is called ciuìga. It is a type of pork salami seasoned with boiled mashed turnip, and it is now a Slow Food presidium. The recipe dates back to the late 1800s when a local butcher, faced with food shortages, recycled meat offcuts bulked up with white turnip. The original recipe evolved over time and today ciuìga is made from selected pork meat with a small addition of turnip.
Don't miss the Sagra della Ciuìga fair celebrating this dish. It is held every autumn during the week spanning the end of October and beginning of November.
