THE VILLAGE OF MAURINA
West of Spormaggiore, in the Sporeggio valley, with the ruins of Castel Sporo just above it, is the small, picturesque hamlet of Maurina, part of the municipality of Spormaggiore.
The tale narrates that its name comes from ‘Maura’, the maidservant of Castel Sporo who was exiled to live in this isolated village after having an illegitimate child with the lord of the castle.
