PASSO SAN GIOVANNI
A crossroad of trails that looks out over the Brenta Dolomites
There are several nature and mountain bike trails which take you to Passo San Giovanni. A raised panoramic viewing area from where you can gaze at Lake Molveno's clear water, the endless pine forests and meadows amidst the spectacular sculptural lines of the Brenta Dolomites.
There's a pleasant hike from Lake Molveno to Passo San Giovanni which offers breathtaking views of the Brenta Dolomites. Not far from the centre of Molveno trail 612 starts. The beginning is steep, but which flattens out to give you a lovely view of Lake Molveno.
From here, the trail ascends with a long stretch in the middle of a beech forest, you'll feel as if you are in a fairy tale.
After walking for about 2 hours you will reach a crossroad where several trails meet, Passo San Giovanni, opening the way onto the Brenta Dolomites. Different trails bring you back to the valley, but they all cross beautiful fir and beech forests.
If you want to enjoy several panoramic viewing areas including Passo San Giovanni we suggest another itinerary, the one that winds along the Paganella ridge: you will frequently turn around to view the Brenta Dolomites, the Maddalene Mountain Chain and the Valle di Non, Lake Garda and the Valle dei Laghi, the Three Peaks of Monte Bondone, the Piana Rotaliana and the Valle dell'Adige.
Starting from the ski lift station Andalo - Dos Pelà in Andalo. This route is on the Monte Paganella-Gazza ridge, which is very wide and scattered with fields. It starts off on the the southern slope near Val dei Laghi, heads towards the peak near the Dos Negher before continuing among meadows until it reaches Cima Canfedin. A fantastic panoramic viewing area overlooking Valle di Non, Val dell'Adige, Lake Garda and the Valle dei Laghi.
Descend towards Passo San Giacomo (1,914 m), then towards La Bocca and Passo di San Giovanni, crossing it to descend between beautiful forests to finally arrive at Andalo or Molveno.
From Passo San Giacomo if you follow trail 610 you can return to the middle ski lift station stop (about 1 hour 15 minutes walk). If you feel up to it you can continue to arrive at Rifugio Bait del Germano, which is located above the Bocca di San Giovanni, where you can enjoy the view of the landscape that it offers. Continue south-southwest following a curvy road, descending towards the slopes covered with dense pine trees until you reach the Malga di Covelo.
From here it is only a 10 minute walk to the Rifugio Ristoro Bait del Germano.
Now that you have seen all this beauty, don't forget it, bring it home with you!
